Scaffolding Writing for Struggling Writers
This PD focuses on how to support students who are significantly below grade level in writing. Teachers examine student work to identify key areas for growth while determining intensive intervention strategies.
Analyzing + Acting on Student Writing
This PD guides teachers through analyzing their own students’ literary analysis writing. Using an exemplar and a rubric, teachers learn how to give actionable feedback to improve students' organization, claims, evidence and explanations.
Literary Analysis Using Multiple Texts
This PD focuses on the Common Core’s expectation that students analyze and write about multiple texts in the same piece of literary analysis. Teachers examine sample writing prompts that involve multiple texts and break down what makes them challenging for students. Teachers also learn how to teach explicit organizational structures that can provide scaffolding to reach greater writing complexity.
